International support

Well, it finally happened. T. Angel and I have ventured out to show our support for deployed troops no matter what country they are from. I can't tell you how many letters we have written but it is in the hundreds.

Thursday, I received the surprise of a lifetime. There was an email from a Canadian soldier!! He told me about himself and some of what he does in the sandbox. Since then we have emailed each other twice a day. This football season is going to be great because he and I really get into football. That means we will be harassing each other :-) He explained that they do not get any days off but he will be getting a 4 day pass in August. Normally, their tours last 5 to 6 months but he and a few others will be there till November and they got to the sandbox in January. He sent pictures but I haven't asked for permission to post his, so I can't share at this time. Their safety is first priority!

If receiving one email wasn't enough, I received another email from a Dutch soldier! I was definitely on cloud 9. He told me about his wife and even shared wedding photos of them. They are such a cute couple and were just married in March. He added me to his messenger list and we chatted for almost 2 hours. I told him about my sister, Nelly, and he asked that I give her his contact info because he lives in Holland and that is right next door to Germany. It would bring him some familiarity to talk to someone else that is close to home.

This morning I checked my email and to my surprise, there was another letter from another Canadian soldier. I already like him for his honesty. He said that he was handed my letter and he thought "Oh great, another bleeding heart" but he was pleasantly surprised when he read my letter. He said he was really happy to know that I have a motorcycle. I have to let him know that I just got it and am still learning how to drive it. He told me how much he misses his wife and his '04 Harley Roadking :-) I need to sit down and write him back, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to do that today. I will write him when I am done with this post.

I have 50 letters to German troops that I need to mail off on Monday. I am still trying to find a contact for Australian troops. As soon as I find out where to send letters, 100 letters will be sent out to the Australians.

T. Angel and I are building the international support for deployed troops slowly. We don't want to mess this up. In our hearts, we know that this is what we need to be doing and ain't nothin' gonna stop us!! Watch out world...The Valkyries are on their way!!!
