Cool scarves
I decided it was time to try something new...making cool scarves for our soldiers. Sure the summer is almost over but I thought maybe they could still use them.
My adventure began by going to the store to get the fabric and crystals. My daughter and I climbed into the car. She was in her flower girl dress from my sister-in-law's wedding and I had on my Spongebob pj's. Needless to say, we got looks like we were crazy, hahaha.
Anyway, I picked up the fabric, no problem. It was the polyacrylicamide crystals that was a pain in the boo-ta-ta to find. According to the instructions you can find these crystals at any craft, home improvement, or general store. YEAH RIGHT!
The first store, of course didn't carry them. So off to the craft store we went. The two employees that I asked looked at me as if I was talking a foreign language that they didn't understand. They had to go find someone else to ask since they had no clue what I was talking about. So, Mikayla and I dressed up the bears while we waited, hehehe. Needless to say, they didn't have them.
Store #3...this was the best. I walk into the home improvement store and instead of looking all over the store for the crystals, I asked if they carried them. I didn't get the look of...huh? They asked me, "do you want those in flat, eggshell, semi-gloss, or glossy." HELLO! It's not paint! I had explained that to them and they still asked the question, sheesh. By this point I was flustered and left.
I was gonna head home but I was determined to find these crystals. I tried one more store...EUREAKA!!! They carried the crystals! WOO HOO!!!! It was finally time to go home and start to sew.
This is the first time I have made these and I don't have very much experience with sewing. But it is high time I learn...

I wanted to send something in packages that were made from the heart and would help our troops to stay cool while out in the heat...

Not too bad of a mess for someone who is still learning to sew, huh?...

Finally, two days later and they are done...

I sent the first 10 off last week. Hopefully I will hear from my "test" soldier, Tim, soon if they worked the way they are supposed to or not.
Even though it will be cooling off soon, I will continue to make them throughout the winter. By the time the hot weather comes around next year, I will have plenty stocked up to send out. Nelly has asked if I can send some to one of her soldiers and I will be sending some out to our other soldiers as soon as I get more made.

You did an AWESOME JOB!
Tim got them yesterday and has handed them all out already. We'll wait to see how well they work :-)
